Tomorrow evening I have to show my face at the Golf Club Captain’s Dinner. Being on a budget I was wracking my brain deciding what to wear (it is informal this year which is unusual) when to my absolute delight I found my ‘lost’ black velvet trousers! I managed to pick up an inexpensive plain turquoise [...]

Well, my package of fibres and fabric was every bit as good as anticipated! In particular I was delighted with both the dark grey and the zebra striped 16 micron merino as well as the dyed linen (or flax) fibre and the ponge silk. I have worked with raw linen fibre before and found it very interesting to use [...]

I thought it was about time that I uploaded some images of the nuno mosaic skirt that I made during German felter Sigrid Bannier’s visit to Ireland during August.
The main body of the skirt is made from four cotton gauze nuno mosaic panels and the cummerbund section around the waist is also nuno felt, this time hand [...]

My flu appears to have abated somewhat so I am taking this opportunity of posting about the very exciting top that I felted for myself this week while getting fed and minded like a baby at Carmen’s! I really hate sewing and for a long time have wanted to make some stylish felt wearables for myself but until Sigrid Bannier’s [...]

Thanks so much to all my inspirational ’fibre friends’ who left comments on the blog and Flickr, as well as those of you who emailed me directly with advice and inspiration about finishing the sides of my nuno felted tunic. It is truly amazing to think how small the world is when you ask a question one [...]
Why didn’t I use a resist for my nuno felted tunic?

Usually I love making anything with a resist but for the nuno felted tunic I decided to work with one of Lizzie Houghton’s designs and stitch up the sides at the prefelt stage. By doing this I would be able to create a 3 dimensional tunic with invisible seams without having to fiddle with cutting [...]

Here are a couple of images of my nuno felt tunic in progress. I laid out the Filzrausch wool very finely on a base of light cotton fabric making sure to keep the brightly coloured circles and stripes large enough to be visable in the felted article.
Unfortunately the images don’t do the felt justice as [...]

Felting time is very precious at the moment as almost every waking hour is spent helping Alan in his local election campaign. This morning he had an appointment to officially register with the returning officer so I was thrilled to get started on a nuno felt sleveless tunic that I have been planning ever since [...]
